MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY

At the time of application, all applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Provide a valid driver’s license.
  • Submit an official sealed high school transcript.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Meet the math requirement:
    • High School Algebra 1 (or higher) with a minimum grade of “C” for two semestersAND/OR
    • One semester of College Algebra with a minimum grade of “C” (college transcript required).
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Be physically able to perform all work of the electrical trade.
  • Be available for the program and have reliable transportation.
  • When required, submit to a drug test and physical examination.
  • Immediately notify the Apprenticeship Office of any changes to your address or phone number. 

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION

  • All Applicants must provide a valid driver’s licence at the time of application
  • All Applicants must provide an OFFICIAL SEALED High School transcript satisfying the basic educational requirements
    • An Applicant may also provide an OFFICIAL SEALED College transcript in addition to satisfy the Algebra 1 requirement
    • *An OFFICIAL SEALED transcript can be obtained at the front office of the High School you attended or via Parchment (<– Click the link) . The transcript should be provided to you in a sealed envelope. You must bring the transcript to the Kern County Electrical Apprenticeship office SEALED and UNOPENED. If you open the transcript for any reason, we will not be able to accept it. On the transcript, we verify that you have satisfied the Algebra 1 requirement with a passing grade of “C” or better.
    • *If you do not have the required passing grade in Algebra 1, successful completion of the NJATC On-Line Tech Math Course (<– Click the link) will satisfy the Algebra requirement 

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

**Applicants are required to review ALL of the information on this page prior to submitting an application**

  • Applications are accepted online only
  • Applicants who satisfy ALL of the Minimum Requirements can proceed to the application below
  • Step 1 – Obtain your official sealed transcripts from your high school.
  • Step 2 – Click the blue-button below, create an account, click the link sent to you in an email, and fill in your basic information
  • Step 3 – Only after you have completed Step 2,  you need to bring in your transcript to the apprenticeship office. Transcripts can be physically brought to the apprenticeship office, mailed, or delivered via Parchment (<– Click the link)  
  • Once you have completed all of the steps in the application process, you will simply wait for an email from us informing you if your transcripts meet the minimum requirement. We review transcripts and send out email notifications every Friday
  • You will need to upload a scanned, clear copy of your Driver’s License at the time of application. Do not take a photo of your license; use a scanner app.
  • Once you have begun the application, you will have 3 days to submit all application materials before it expires.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE APPLICATION

After you have successfully submitted an application you will be NOTIFIED BY EMAIL with your aptitude test date and time. The test will be held at the apprenticeship school and will cover basic reading comprehension and algebra. The test will last approximately 2.5 hours and you must stay for the entire time to get credit for taking the test. If you do not pass the aptitude test you must wait 6 months before you can take the test again here or any other location. All applicants that pass the aptitude test will move to the next step in the application process which is an interview with our apprenticeship committee.
